Impact Commercial!
Our commercial is up on the web!

Here's the high-bandwidth version.

Here's the low-bandwidth version.

Those are both in .wmv format, which I know WinAmp can handle.  Hopefully we'll have it available in other formats soon.

I just watched it twice, which made me cry and also really, really made me want to teach again.

That's really cool! So how are you involved with this organization?

I teach for them! We teach in male-female teams -- the guy is in the big padded suit getting whacked on, and the woman demonstrates how to do all the techniques, coaches the students through it, helps them if they have emotional overload, etc.

In terms of what you saw in the commercial (and wow, I'm glad you liked it!), I do what the woman in the background with the whistle does. :-)

I got involved because I took one of their classes years & years ago, and fell in love with it, and volunteer tons, and eventually when they said they needed more people to teach I applied!

I'd love to take a class like that, I have a lot of anxiety issues and I almost never go anywhere alone. The only stuff like that I know about in Norman is more like martial arts.

Unfortunately I don't know that there are any classes like that in Oklahoma, or even in Texas -- I think the nearest would be Missouri or Colorado. If you win the lottery or something, though, you should come out here and take one! They can be emotionally rough, but I also found it *so* much fun.

Please DO IT

I don't know you, but I want to encourage you to PLAN to take "a class like that". No doubt Cera has reasons for saying "if you win the lottery". I say forget the lottery and start planning. Imapct Bay Area does do some partial scholarships (Cera can tell you ALL the details). Maybe the Impact chapters nearer you do too?

Here is the current schedule in Ohio:
http://www.impactsafety.org/filesphp/schedule.php
Some of the women's basics (assuming you are a woman) are just 2
weekends.
The travel time seems challenging. Could you stay in Ohio for a
week and a half?
Oh, if I understand what they say here, there is a November course
that is 3 days in a row. That is less travel time.
Check all the other impact locations too, so that you know what
all the options are.
Apply for financial assistance, if appropriate, at all of the
ones that offer it.
It is like a great adventure: how will you get there? By bus?
train? car? plane? Will you stay with another student? Relatives?
at a youth hostel?
How many people can you get to help you with planning? With paying
for it? With moral support?
I don't actually mean to tell you what to do, only mean to offer
ideas and options.... sometimes thinking about it differently leads
to different outcomes.
best wishes,

up was more about fear than any other time/money/logistical issue.
I was terrified!)

p.s. hope I'm not sounding too pushy here :(
Here is a page about financial aid options at Impact Bay Area
http://www.bamm.org/Programs/finassist.pdf
(requires Adobe reader). Note they say that if you can't attend
a demo in person you can watch a video tape.

Yeesh... watching that made me cry, too.

I'm glad you're doing for this, in a big way.

I'm going to make ALL my coworkers watch that. *grins and grins*

And now I really want to do a fight. Showing alumni the commercial just before doing signups for a Fight Night could be a very effective tactic...

Thank you! It's often exhausting, but I'm glad to be doing it too.
