Current music:"Beautiful Red Dress" by Laurie Anderson

all the clever subject lines are currently asleep
I have written our wedding invitations, and figured out precisely how to print them out, and created a wedding webpage to handle frequently asked questions, and gazed at some floating candles which might make good decorations and examined various online merchants trying to figure out where to register.

I have taken a history exam.  I think I got an A, and it's my last exam this quarter.  I'm now officially done with school until at least June!

I've been listening to various recordsing of Evita, on and off. As a Sondheim devotee I am obliged to sneer at Andrew Lloyd Webber, but I admit that Evita pleases me greatly.  I especially like the tension between the narrative voice of Che sneering at Eva, and Eva's portrayal as a sympathetic woman.

For some reason which currently escapes me I've picked up three Distributed Proofreaders projects for processing.  It would be nice to get one done before my wedding.

I am very, very tired, and want to go stare off into space for many hours.  Aime is sleeping atop my monitor.  She's fallen off 1 1/2 times today, but it doesn't dissuade her.  Instead of hiding under the bed I'm trying to imitate her tenacity.

SS vs. ALW

Please, please, please do not succumb to Sondheim snobbery. I cannot abide it.

ALw's worth should not be understated. I feel strongly about this, especially in the face of Sondheim fans who claim he is "pop musical." The enjoyment of music is never, ever wrong.

We have here the difference between 'enjoyable' and 'good'.

There is some ALW I enjoy immensely -- namely Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar. There's some ALW I used to enjoy (as you may well & vividly remember) that I now dislike. There's even some ALW floating about out there that I've never found anything to like about.

But there isn't any ALW that I really think is good. I fully admit that I don't have an educated definition for what makes music good, or lyrics good, or even a piece of theatre good. I instead have a strange kinesthetic sense which I can also apply to books & television shows & the like, that has to do with ... unity and clarity and focus, and necessity.

I find most (not all) Sondheim extremely enjoyable, on the whole. I also find Sondheim to be good, according to my own personal sense of what good means. Not always and entirely good, not consistently good, but he has done some things (Assassins, for instance) which I think are brilliant.

I agree with you entirely that the enjoyment of music is never wrong. I think people should listen to what they enjoy, not to what someone else thinks is good. My 'sneer at ALW' comment in my post was meant humorously, not didactically. But, that being said, I don't think I'm a snob for believing that Sondheim is a better composer than Andrew Lloyd Webber, and a better lyricist that Tim Rice or Charles Hart.

Hmn, maybe I should turn this into an entire post; I could throw in William Finn & Jonathan Larson while I'm at it.

Good luck with the wedding preparations. ^_^

Floating candles make lovely decorations. And a lot safer than the foliage-based centrepiece at the dinner I was at last week that dramatically caught fire during desert. o.0;

Hi, my name is Shon Aguero and I'm a Poli Sci grad student in Oklahoma. I just read that you made an "a" on your paper. I'm doing some research on poli sci research papers for a graduate class (Political Writings) and I'd like to review your paper as part of my research, if you wouldn't mind.

My email address at work is saguero@shamrockbank.com and my hotmail is wudis007@hotmail.com. If you don't mind sending me a copy as an attachment.

I know this probably seems weird but I swear it's not.

Thanks.

Shon
